Mayo IPSC (Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign) is holding two candlelit vigils for the women, children and men of Gaza later today in Mayo. This evening, Thursday, December 12, more than 1200 people across Ireland will be engaging in a 24-hour fast in solidarity with the people of Palestine and to raise funds for UNRWA - to provide essential life-saving provisions for the people of Gaza.
At least 17,000 of the more than 45,000 Palestinians who have been killed by Israeli forces are children (many believe this is a very huge underestimation) The Lancet British medical journal places the number of people killed in Gaza at almost 200,000 to include the thousands of people who remain unclaimed and unreachable under the rubble of Gaza.
“People in Northern Gaza are being systematically starved and ethnically cleansed. The government of Ireland, along with many more states and agencies across the globe, have named this onslaught on the Palestinian population as genocide. We are asking people in Mayo to show solidarity and empathy with the people of Palestine and to join us in two candlelit vigils taking place in both Westport and Castlebar this evening at 5.30pm,” said a spokesperson for Mayo IPSC.
