Today, St Josephs Secondary School Castlebar will introduce a learning platform called 'Skilly'. It is designed to help students develop, measure and track essential life and soft skills. School principal Peadar Ó Tuathail says, 'Skilly' gives teachers “the opportunity to create teaching resources that is context driven and age and stage appropriate. This digital platform also allows teachers to digitally accessing students prior knowledge of a particular topic, teach that topic and access the learning that has taken place at the end of the topic.”
Unlike traditional teaching methods, 'Skilly' favours practice over passive learning. This platform will give teachers the chance to efficiently track their students' progress.
“We have introduced Skilly in our school because it empowers students to reflect and grow, equips teachers with innovative tools, and aligns perfectly with our vision for inclusive education” says principal Ó Tuathail: “By replacing traditional resources in areas like SPHE and leveraging AI to enhance efficiency, Skilly makes learning accessible and inclusive for all students, regardless of their learning needs. This marks the beginning of a transformative journey to equip students with the skills they need for a successful future.”
