The very first Western Strands String Fest is set to bring a lively atmosphere to Belmullet this weekend.

Running from Friday, November 1 to Sunday, November 3, the three-day festival celebrates the vibrant world of string instruments.

Organised by The Western Strands, this unique event invites musicians and music lovers from near and far to enjoy a packed program of sessions, workshops, a headline concert, and even a flash mob. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience the rich musical traditions and warm community spirit of North Mayo.

Kicking off on Friday, the Western Strands String Fest will feature numerous activities, from engaging ukulele and guitar sessions to workshops for all skill levels.

The festival’s highlight will be the Saturday evening concert by the renowned ‘Dead Man’s Uke’ at Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, starting at 7.30pm.

Known for their energetic performances, Dead Man’s Uke will bring their unique style to Erris, making this concert an unforgettable experience.

“Erris has long been celebrated as one of the best places to ‘go wild’ in Ireland,” commented Mairéad Melody Carr, Manager of Mayo North Tourism.

“It’s fantastic to see events like the Western Strands String Fest bring such vibrant energy to the region, especially during the off-peak season. Local organisers are dedicated to showcasing the beauty, culture, and creativity that make Erris so special. This festival, and others like it, continue to enrich our community and offer visitors something truly unique,” she added.

David Tyrell of the Western Strands is encouraging everyone to join in the festivities.

“Festivalgoers can look forward to a weekend filled with jam sessions, a flash mob, and welcoming workshops for musicians of all skill levels, hosted at various spots around town. So grab your ukulele, guitar, banjo, fiddle, or bass, and be part of the celebration!” he concluded.
