John Casserly died at an apartment in Tone Street in Ballina
A man who was found dead at a property in Ballina suffered multiple stab wounds prior to his death.
John Casserly (59) was pronounced dead at the scene after gardaí arrived at an apartment in Tone Street last night (Wednesday) following a suspected row.
According to the Irish Mirror, Mr Casserly suffered ‘a very violent death’ after incurring multiple stab wounds.
Two men, one in his 20s and the other in his 30s, who are believed to be known to Mr Casserly, were arrested and detained by Gardaí under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The local Coroner has been notified and the services of the Garda Technical Bureau and State Pathologist have been requested.
Local county councillor Annie May Reape has described the incident as ‘a human tragedy’.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone with camera footage, including dashcam recordings from road users in the Tone Street area and nearby locations around the time of the incident.
