Funding of €66,500 has been announced to support 35 walking trails across Mayo.
Amounts ranging from €1,500 to €25,000 will go toward the development and upgrade of walking trails and community groups county wide.
Both Minister of State Dara Calleary TD and Minister Michael Ring welcomed the funding for the development and upgrade of walking trails across county Mayo.
Minister Calleary said: “Each of these trails are invaluable to their respective communities, both from a socio and economic perspective. More and more people are getting active, and to be able to enjoy physical activity outdoors within one's own community will only further increase participation.
He added: “These trails are also highly valuable as tourism attractions within the county. I want to compliment and thank all the local committees involved in developing and maintaining the trails and congratulate them on this funding award.”
Michael Ring TD commented: “Walkways and trails are of huge benefit to communities in Mayo, providing an outlet to get fresh air, exercise, connect with neighbours and friends and boost our mental wellbeing.”
