The popular JJ O'Malley's Bar and Restaurant on Bridge Street in Westport has closed its door.
Owners Anna Barnard and Stephen Byrne announced the closure of their business earlier this month, calling it both ‘bittersweet and surreal’.
In a post on Facebook they wrote: “This place was a huge part of our lives for 24 years. We will miss our customers as well as our staff - who have become like family.
“The class of 2024 have formed friendships and memories for life. They have been a hard-working, loyal and fun-loving team! Thank you to all for ensuring we went out on a high.”
They continued: “To those staff that have helped shape O’Malleys over the years, thank you. For all of those and in particular, Fiona, it couldn’t have been done without you.
“To our wonderful customers, thank you for the memorable nights and celebrations you shared with us. To the musicians, thank you for being an integral part of the O’Malleys team for years.”
The bar and restaurant is set to open again soon under new ownership.
