The scene on The Fairgreen in Westport where a car struck a house earlier this afternoon.
There was a miraculous escape on The Fairgreen in Westport earlier this afternoon when a driver lost control of a car and ended up mounting the footpath and striking the front facade of a house at the end of the street, which is directly across from the town's Garda station.
Remarkably nobody was injured and the car involved in the incident has now been removed from the scene. It is understood that moves are now in place to stabilise the building which suffered extensive damage to its front area.
The occupants of the car were not injured and it is not known if anyone was present in the house at the time of the collision which occurred shortly after 1pm this afternoon. Gardaí and emergency services attended at the scene and traffic in the town was increased substantially due to the area around the incident being cordoned off.
