Major Mayo road to be closed for works

The N5 dual carriageway will be closed for five nights to facilitate grass cutting to verges

The N5 dual carriageway in Mayo will be closed for five nights between September 16 and 27 to facilitate works.

The road will be closed from the N5/R309 Roundabout in Turlough, to the N5 dual carriageway/N5 single carriageway Roundabout in Westport.

Notice was given by Mayo County Council, who in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993 and the Roads Regulations, 1994, made the decision to close the road to facilitate grass cutting to verges.

The physical road closure is anticipated for up to 5 nights between the hours of 7pm and 6am. 

An advance notification of start date will be provided, and roads will be opened early if works are completed.

Alternative Routes for road users include:

  • Westbound vehicles travelling on the N5 will divert on to the R309 (Old N5)
  • Eastbound vehicles Travelling on the N5 will divert on to the R309 (Old N5)
  • Vehicles travelling on the N60/R308 (Breaffy Road) will divert on to the R309 (Old N5)
  • Vehicles travelling on the N84/R307 (Ballinrobe Road) will divert on to the R309 (Old N5)
  • The diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, and emergency access will be maintained.
