The funeral of a woman who died in a road traffic accident on the outskirts of Newport town is to take place today and tomorrow.
A native of India, Lizy Abraham Saju, was a rear seat passenger in a car which collided with a camper van on the N59 on the Mulranny side of Newport at around 4.30pm on Thursday, August 8.
The 63-year-old lived in Kill, Co Kildare and worked as a nurse employed by Allenfield Nursing Homes in Co Kildare and was with a group visiting Mayo when the incident occurred.
The deceased was the beloved wife of Saju Varghese, loving mother of Edwin and Dhivya, a much loved grandmother of Nivaan, Ellen, Nadal and Saira and loving daughter of Annamma Abraham and the late Abraham Patturumadathil.
Lizy will be forever loved and very sadly missed by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, mother, daughter-in-law Rakhi, son-in-law Peter, sisters Mariyakutty Abraham, Leelamma Joy, Sussheela Abraham, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Reposing is in Brian McElroy Funeral Home, Crumlin Village (D12 EC60) this afternoon Saturday, August 17) from 1pm to 4pm. Lizy’s Funeral Service and Repose will take place on Sunday, August 18, in St Mary’s College Chapel, Rathmines with Funeral Service at 1pm and reposing from 2pm to 4pm and afterwards for repatriation to her home in Kerala, India.
The deceased has been described as being dedicated to her profession as a nurse and this dedication was matched only by her love and devotion to her family. She was also described as a compassionate caregiver, known for her kindness, warmth, and the gentle care she provided to her patients and her loss is felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Gardaí are still appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the incident, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
