On Saturday last, June 8, 70 members of the Walsh family attended a reunion at the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport. The reunion was originally planned by Rob Walsh, who lives in Switzerland, for June 2020, but had to be postponed because of the Covid pandemic.

The attendees are all descended from Martin Walsh (1847-1913) and his wife Bridget Tunney (1853-1950) of Derrygorman. Members of the family travelled from all over the world including America, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Scotland, England and different parts of Ireland.

During the evening, they were entertained by dancers from the Cresham School of Irish Dancing, who gave a stunning performance to rapturous applause.

The large group are 30 of the descendants of Jack Walsh of Derrygorman, (the youngest son of Martin Walsh and Bridget Tunney) and his wife Bridget Kenny of the Bog Gate, Westport. The couple emigrated to Barnet, Hertfordshire, England in 1936 with their children but returned to Westport after a bomb damaged their house in 1939. They returned to Barnet in 1947.
