The car park at SuperValu in Westport has been sealed off since early afternoon after the fatal collision.
An elderly woman has died after she was struck by a truck in the car park of a Westport supermarket earlier today.
The incident happened shortly before 12 noon today. The Gardai and the emergency services rushed to the car park area of the SuperValu supermarket in the town centre but the local woman, who was in her 70s, tragically died at scene.
The car park and the supermarket itself have been closed since early afternoon. The scene was preserved and has since been examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The body of the deceased has now been moved from the scene and the local Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. Additionally, those with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam recordings, who were in the vicinity at the time are urged to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.
