FUNDING which has been approved for an extension to a national school on Achill Island has been welcomed by local TDs.
Saula National School on Achill Island has been approved funding for an extension from the Department of Education, under the Additional Accommodation Scheme. The extension will consist of one mainstream classroom and one special education teacher (SET) classroom.
The approval of funding was welcomed by local Fine Gael TD Michael Ring.
“This is very welcome news and I am sure that the teachers and students will benefit from the additional accommodation being provided. Capital funding in our education system is vital to improve the learning environment for all children,” said the Westport-based deputy.
His party colleague Alan Dillon also welcomed the approval of the new extension to the Gaeltacht school.
“I am delighted that initial project approval has been granted to this popular Achill school. I will continue to work with the building department, principal and school staff to ensure additional accommodation for mainstream and those with special educational needs in 2024. I am committed to ensuring the further development of this school into the future to meet the needs of the local community.
“I want to wish principal John Gallagher, staff, pupils and Board of Management the very best for the year ahead,” the Minister of State said.
