Get ready to be transported to the heart of Irish tradition as the enchanting sean-nós singer Emily Rooney graces the for the first event of the Mayo Fleadh.
Fleadh Mhaigh Eo’s first concert will take place in the Dome suite of the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, on Sunday, April 21.
Hailing from the picturesque village of Kilmovee, Emily’s musical journey began at a tender age, steeped in the rich heritage of traditional Irish music. She attended traditional music summer schools across the country, where her love for sean-nós blossomed.
Her dedication and talent led her to numerous All-Ireland titles in English traditional singing, establishing her as a formidable presence on the Irish music scene.
Building upon her foundation, Emily pursued formal music education at Maynooth University, where she studied Classical Vocal studies under the guidance of esteemed mentors such Mr. Ciaran Brady.
She continued her musical journey at the DIT Conservatory of Music in Dublin, under the tutelage of renowned tenor Emmanuel Lawlor, honing her craft and enriching her repertoire with the intricate melodies and haunting cadences of sean-nós singing.
Emily’s musical prowess extends beyond the realms of traditional Irish music. As a member of the esteemed Maynooth University Chamber Choir, she has graced prestigious stages, showcasing her versatility and emotive depth through performances of masterpieces like Vivaldi’s Gloria and Allegri’s Miserere Mei Deus.
Notable highlights of Emily’s career include a special invitation to perform for Pope Francis during his historic visit to Ireland, as well as being selected for RTE’s Easter Triduum chapel choir from St Patrick’s College in Maynooth.
At the first event in the lead up to Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eo, the audience will have the rare opportunity to witness Emily Rooney’s captivating artistry first hand.
The event, which is the first of many surrounding Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eo 2024, will see an array of talented musicians take to the stage, stay tuned to The Mayo News, for information on all participants.
