Deputy Ring confirmed the funding today
Michael Ring, T.D. has confirmed that funding of €34,500 is to be allocated to five community groups across Mayo to bolster local biodiversity initiatives.
Deputy Ring said he is ‘particularly pleased to see groups in Mayo receive this funding’, as their ‘commitment to protect and enhance our local biodiversity’ is a key factor in protecting the health of the county’s environment.
Each project will receive access to experts to ‘either develop a new Community Biodiversity Action Plan (CBAP) or support to implement measures from an existing plan’.
“The grants are the latest in a joint Biodiversity Fund, an initiative of the Community Foundation Ireland and the National Parks and Wildlife Service which has seen 213 such action plans developed across the country through a joint investment of €1.76 Million since 2019” said Mr Ring.
The Fine Gael TD said the projects involved are ‘uniquely impactful’ because they connect communities with scientific expertise, which helps them to better understand their local biodiversity.
“The preservation and enhancement of our local biodiversity is crucial to the health of our environment” he added.
“I look forward to seeing the positive outcomes of these projects for Mayo and the continued partnership between community groups and ecologists,” concluded Deputy Ring.
