Castlebar Musical & Dramatic Society to perform sensory-friendly version of Legally Blonde

CASTLEBAR Musical & Dramatic Society is delighted to present a relaxed/sensory-friendly performance of their production of the hilarious Legally Blonde: The Musical.

The society will stage a special performance of the show that will be ‘for everyone, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment which can be enjoyed by all’.  

The performance, which will take place in the TF Royal Theatre on Saturday, March 9, at 2pm will see lighting and sound reduced in the auditorium to reduce sensory stimuli to a comfortable, safe and welcoming environment.

It remains to date, the only amateur musical society in Ireland to stage a sensory-friendly show, having successfully staged a relaxed performance of ‘All Shook Up!’ in 2023.

Speaking about this initiative, Ronan Egan, Chairman of Castlebar Musical & Dramatic Society, said: “Relaxed performances provide a supportive theatre environment where audience members can express themselves as they wish, move around and exit and re-enter the auditorium freely.  During this performance, there will be a laid-back approach to noise and movement, thereby encouraging everyone to relax and be completely themselves while enjoying the show.”

Referring to this specific performance of ‘Legally Blonde: The Musical’, Mr Egan advised that ‘the show’s lighting and sound will be adjusted to reduce sensory stimuli and the lights in the auditorium will be kept on at a lower level throughout the performance to create a comfortable, safe and welcoming environment’. 

“There will also be a ‘chill-out’ area where people can go if they find they need some quiet time away from the auditorium,” Mr Egan added. 

This relaxed/sensory-friendly performance is one of a run of four shows of ‘Legally Blonde: The Musical’, which takes place in The Royal Theatre Castlebar from March 7-9.
