SOUTH Mayo is to receive a new garda superintendent following the promotion of Superintendent Brian Hoey.
Supt Hoey will be stationed at Claremorris Garda Station and will have responsibility for Mayo South Community Engagement Functional Area (Garda Operating Model).
His appointment is one of eight transfers and promotions announced by An Garda Síochána today as part of the ongoing introduction of the Garda Operating Model.
The new model aims to restructure the force at national, regional and local levels to provide a greater focus on community policed based on local needs.
These include the enhancement of the investigation of crime through the delivery of a greater range of specialised services in local areas, such as the investigation of sexual crime, domestic violence, cyber-crime, and economic crime.
The Operating Model will see the number of Garda Divisions reduce from 28 to 21.
