THE Erris community marked the first day of Belmullet Town’s bicentenary year in style with a gala Ball taking place in The Broadhaven Bay Hotel on New Year’s Day.

The Erris capital was founded by landlord William Henry Carter in 1824 when he directed engineer and Castlebar native, Patrick Knight to lay out a planned town on the isthmus between Broadhaven and Blacksod Bays.

The Committee of Belmullet 200 would like to thank to the Padden family and all the team at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel for their support and for providing a beautiful setting and the finest of food and service.

The committee would also like to thank The Camembert Quartet Band, Buck Taylor and Keith McDonald for a night of exceptional entertainment. A special mention of thanks also to Sheila Moffat and the exceptional dancers of the Moffat School of Irish Dance who performed on the night.

A note of thanks to Belmullet 200’s sponsors, in particular to mention Padraig Conroy and Kevin O’Shea for their fundraising on behalf of Belmullet 200 in Chicago in 2023.

A huge thanks to Monika Regeciova for event photography and Fergus Sweeney and Tom Reilly for videography and Lisa and Colm Monaghan at Go Print.

Finally, a thanks to all who attended and supported this inaugural Belmullet 200 event.

Representatives from across our in-numerous local community organisations and businesses, our public representatives, TD Rose Conway Walsh and Cllr Seán Carey, our local clergy and our community volunteers. Míle buíochas go léir!
