Best Hotel Restaurant in Ireland Award for Knockranny Hotel; Foxford and Achill to keep Bank of Ireland ATMs; Free World Cup Supplement in shops now
Knockranny House Hotel restaurant voted the best in Ireland
Knockranny House Hotel in Westport was last night chosen as the winner of the Best Hotel Restaurant in Ireland at the prestigious Irish Restaurant Awards, held in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin. Two other Westport restaurants, Sol Rio and An Port Mór, along with Paddy Jordan’s Bar and Restaurant in Ballina were also nominated for awards after wins in the regional competition. The ceremony which was attended by over 700 people. Knockranny's Head Chef, Seamus Commons, was also nominated for an award.
Bank of Ireland to keep ATM machines in Achill and Foxford
The Bank of Ireland had moved to scotch rumours that it is to close ATM cash facilities in Achill and Foxford. In a statement, a spokesperson for Bank of Ireland said it remained ‘totally committed to providing ATM cash facilities in towns, villages and rural communities and this includes Achill and Foxford’. “Indeed, we have just recently reached agreement with Sweeney’s in Achill to extend the full ATM service for a further 12 months,” added the spokesperson.
Tension building in South Africa ahead of soccer World Cup finals
With just one day left before the start of the 2010 soccer World Cup Finals in South Africa, tension is building as the final preparations are put in place. The Mayo News, in association with the Irish Racing Post, has this week included a free 96-page supplement previewing from every angle the world’s biggest sporting occasion. The supplement is now available in shops right across the county.
