Padden expected back in Mayo panel

Mayo manager John O’Mahony is expected to publicly name his panel for the championship campaign of 2010 this weekend.
The Mayo News understands that Belmullet’s Billy Joe Padden, who didn’t feature in the panel for Mayo during the National Football League, will be part of that panel.
However, one player who will not be part of the squad of 30 is Ballaghaderreen’s Barry Kelly. The midfielder cum half-forward dropped off the panel this week.
While precise details of the full panel have not yet been released, there are not expected to be too many surprises in its composition.
Mayo depart for a training week in Portugal next weekend ahead of their Connacht championship clash with Sligo in Markievicz Park, Sligo on Saturday evening, June 6.

Health services to be Cowley’s priority

Mayo’s health services will be given priority by new Labour Party recruit and former Independent TD, Dr Jerry Cowley.
Dr Cowley, who plans to fight the next General Election, has told The Mayo News that since he left public office in 2007, the status and retention of health services in the county had gone right off the agenda.
“To me, politics is all about putting people first, supporting older people and ensuring that we have a proper and fair health service,” Dr Cowley said.

Mayo drivers given Bank Holiday warning

Drivers in Mayo this Bank Holiday will be given a reminder of how their lives can change in a flash as road safety officers promote their latest safety campaign.
Called the ‘flash before your eyes’ campaign, a series of five billboards have been erected along the Charlestown bypass on the N5.
“Billboards will be placed close enough to each other so that when a car is travelling past them at 100kmh the effect will result in a flash of images, with the final billboards spaced further apart to reveal the road safety message," said Noel Gibbons from Mayo County Council.
