All flights to and from Knock Airport again cancelled today
There may be hope of a change in conditions later in the week, but authorities at Ireland West Airport Knock have confirmed that all flights scheduled to and from the airport today have been cancelled. The latest Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre reports show Ireland at the centre of a contamination zone up to 13:00 hours today. The airport have also cancelled another eight flights scheduled for tomorrow.
Construction funding approved for McHale College
Major construction work is to commence at McHale College, Achill in the near future. Four new general classrooms and office space will be constructed to accommodate the amalgamation of Scoil Damhnait and McHale College on the island. “I am very pleased to announce that the Department of Education and Science has sanctioned funding for McHale College,” said Mayo Minister of State Dara Calleary. “The building unit of the Department will be in contact with the school authorities shortly in relation to the amount of funding approved.”
Gaelic football community shocked at death of Leitrim player
GAA clubs throughout the county are still coming to terms with the news that an inter-county player died yesterday from injuries sustained in a club game in Leitrim last weekend. Philip McGuinness (26) was well known to Mayo football manager John O’Mahony, who managed Leitrim in the 1990s, and O’Mahony said the thoughts of all involved with the GAA were with the family, team-mates and friends of Philip.
