South Mayo town to serve alcohol on Good Friday

A South Mayo town is set to join Limerick and serve alcohol tomorrow (Good Friday) after an historic legal decision was made in Ballinrobe this morning (April 1).
The Mayo News has learned that an early-morning meeting today between publicans, members of the legal profession and local celebrities (including the agent of the famous ‘Ballinrobe Bull’) resulted in a town bye-law being changed to allow alcohol to be sold in pubs tomorrow. National Museum in Turlough set to re-open on Sundays

The National Museum of Ireland has today confirmed that the Museum of Country Life, located at Turlough, Castlebar, will now re-open on Sundays.
The Museum has been closed on recent Sundays due to strike action from public sector workers but after agreement was reached at this weeks pay talks between the Government and trade unions, the strikes have now been called off. The Museum at Turlough will now re-open as usual from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.


Mayo minors face Galway in Ballinrobe this weekend

There will be no shortage of local interest in Saturday evening’s Connacht Minor League match between Mayo and Galway in Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe.
One of the Galway players, Eoin Maughan, is a son of former All-Ireland winning Mayo minor, Jimmy Maughan, a native of Ballinrobe who also went on play senior with the county. Tony Duffy’s Mayo have lost to Roscommon and beaten Longford in their opening two games in the competition. This weekend’s match throws-in at 4.30pm.
