A cooking course in Leitrim looks at on how to put the mantra ‘eat right for your blood type’ into action.
It’s in your blood
In ‘Eat Right 4 Your Type’ (1996), Dr Peter D’Adamo outlined ‘Blood Type Diets’, a way of eating and living that became a way of life for many. The New York Times best-seller, which sold more than 5 million copies in over 50 languages, argues that people with different blood types should have different diets for optimum health. While the diet is not uncontroversial, its popularity is hard to deny. According to Dr D’Adamo, some blood types should steer clear of cereals and grains and eat more protein. Others might be the opposite. Those with Blood Type A, for example, are told they should basically stick to fruits and vegetables (high carbs/low fat) and consume lean protein from fish, while those with Blood Type O should stick to a high-protein diet (including red meat) and enriched with fruit and veg, and avoid dairy and carbs. The Organic Centre in Rossinver, Co Leitrim, is running a one-day ‘Cooking for your Blood Type’ course with naturopath and herbalist Gaby Wieland on Saturday, April 10, from 10am to 5pm. This practical course focuses on how to put the mantra ‘eat right for your blood type’ into action. Participants will learn how to cook for their blood type and about different ways to apply the Blood Type Diet to ensure their individual needs are met. They will also learn which foods are their own individual ‘super foods’, which foods to avoid and about suitable food substitutes and meal planning. The day will include a tailor-made lunch suited to all blood types. The importance of organic food for a healthy lifestyle will also be discussed, and participants will be able to view the Organic Centre’s demonstration gardens and polytunnels. For more information about the course, contact the organic centre at info@theorganiccentre.ie or 071 9854338.
