Mayo lose Connacht U-21 football crown

Mayo’s Connacht U-21 football championship campaign ended disappointingly on Wednesday when they were defeated by a point in a dramatic game against Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park.
Mayo had won the last four Connacht U-21 titles in a row but their ‘drive for five’ ended at the semi-final stage thanks to a late, late Donie Shine winner which gave Roscommon a 2-9 to 1-11 victory.
Mayo looked to have secured extra-time against fourteen man Roscommon when Kevin McLoughlin equalised three minutes into injury time but Roscommon deservedly won with a wonderful winner from Shine.

Lotto winner sold in Castlebar

Newsstand at Market Square in Castlebar has sold another winning lotto ticket with the news that a €500,000 winning ticket was sold there.
The multi-draw ticket was sold on Tuesday and won the top prize of €500,000 in the ‘All or Nothing’ draw later that evening.
The lucky winner has not yet come forward to claim their prize.

Video of blazing bog fire in Ballina

As the dry spell continues, there was yet more extensive fire in County Mayo on Wednesday. After fires last week which engulfed whole acres of lands in Bartragh Island in Killala Bay and in Carrabawn, outside Westport, Corroy in Ballina was the latest area to fall victim to a raging fire.
The bog fire spread rapidly and engulfed a large area. Snapper Jay Meenan was on hand to capture on video the sheer scale of the out of control fire.
