Darren Cawley named an inaugural winner of Local Hero award
Darren Cawley from Westport today has been announced as the inaugural winner of the Santa Rita 120 Local Hero campaign. Hundreds of nominations were received from the four corners of the country but Darren, who is familiar face due to his promotional work for organ donation, was chosen as the winner. "I can't believe it. This is huge for me and I will be donating the €10,000 I have won towards the Irish team’s involvement in the European Transplant & Dialysis Games this August in Dublin,” said Darren, who suffered kidney failure eight years ago.
County Council to debate planning refusal for Ballina road
It has been confirmed today that standing orders will be suspended at next Monday’s monthly meeting of Mayo Council Council in order for the councillors to discuss the fall out from the decision taken by An Bord PleanΡla to refuse permission for stage 2 of the N26 road to Ballina. The issue is to be raised by Ballina councillor, Michelle Mulherin.
Ronaldson to learn fate at GAA headquarters tomorrow
Mayo forward Mark Ronaldson will learn tomorrow night if he is to serve a four week suspension for an off the ball incident that occurred during Mayo’s NFL defeat of Tyrone last month. Ronaldson is appealing the impending ban and he will put forward his case before a hearing in Croke Park tomorrow night.
