DERRY singer Kieran McGilligan makes a welcome return to Mayo this weekend when he and his band play Digger Jay’s in Ayle on Friday night. It’s been a while since Kieran has journeyed to this part of the province and he is pleased to be heading our way again. A brand new album, ‘Memories To Burn’, was released by Kieran in recent weeks. The 12-track collection is a showcase for the kind of material which Kieran and the band are most at home with …. the more traditional sounds of country. Among the tracks featured are ‘Smoke Along The Track’, ‘One More Time’, ‘Pinto The Wonder Horse’, ‘Be Nice to the People You Meet Goin’ Up’, and ‘If That’s The Way You Feel’. Band leader, John Taylor, who was a member of Big Tom’s band during the 1980s, says they are hoping for a really good night in Digger Jay’s before the Christmas. “I understand it’s been some time since Kieran played in the area so we are delighted to be going back there again. We have a very busy schedule for the Christmas season with shows in many parts of the country. “Kieran is very pleased with the new album and it has been picking up extensive airplay around the country. One of his earliest songs, ‘Waltzing An Angel Tonight’, is still his most requested number. It seems to have enduring appeal and is very much associated with Kieran. It’s a ‘must do’ song every night.” Patrons can look forward to a lovely show when Kieran and his band provide some fine entertainment in Digger’s this Friday night. As usual, dancing is from 11pm to 1am.
