The third count of the Galway West constituency saw Eamon O’Cuiv receive the highest number of eliminated candidate Nichola Davoren’s (Renua) votes bringing him to 9,679.
This boost of 100 votes sees O’Cuiv just over 1,000 short of reaching the 10,712 quota. Independent Noel Grealish was the beneficiary of 100 votes followed by FG’s Hildegarde Naughton with 94 votes.
Tommy Holohan (AAA PBP) has been eliminated and his 1,071 votes will now be distributed. It is understood a great deal of these votes may go to Independent candidate Catherine Connolly.
The current line-up of candidates in the reckoning sees Noel Grealish following O’Cuiv on 7,308, FG’s Sean Kyne on 6,232, SF’s Trevor O’Clochartaigh on 5,815, Catherine Connolly at 4,982 and John O’Mahony of Fine Gael on 4,788, with his colleague Hildegarde Naughton at 4,676.
