No winners after first count in Galway West

After a prolonged wait in Galway West for the first count, no candidate has reached the quota and three have been eliminated

IN THE RUNNING Fine Gael’s John O’Mahony has overtaken colleague Hildegarde Naughton in the first count.

No candidate has been deemed elected in the Galway West constituency after none reached the quota of 10,712.
The three lowest-polling candidates have been eliminated at the count centre in NUI Galway. Patrick Feeney (Ind) on 22 votes, Tommy Roddy (Ind) 251 and Ruari O’Neill (DDI) 152 have now been eliminated and their transfers will now be distributed to the remaining candidates.
Fianna Fail’s Eamon O’Cuiv who is certain to top the poll now stands at 9,539, just 1,173 off the quota. Next in line is Independent Noel Grealish on 7,187 and Fine Gael’s SeΡn Kyne on 6,136.
Sinn Fein’s Trevor O’Clochartaigh is currently at 5,755 after the first count, with Independent Catherine Connolly on 4,877. Connolly lost out on a seat last time out by just 17 votes. On 4,734, Fine Gael’s Mayo candidate John O’Mahony has overtaken colleague Hildegarde Naughton, who is on 4,567, by just 167 votes.
The other remaining candidates’ positions after the first count are as follows: J Connolly (FF) 3,885, Cubbard (Ind) 2,122, Davoren (Renua) 994,Healy-Eames (Ind) 1,394, Hoade (FF) 2,205, Holohan (AAA-PBP) 1,017, Nolan (Lab) 3,220, O’Tuathaill (SD) 3,455, Sheridan (GP) 1,588, Charity (Ind) 1,171.
