Bottom nine candidates got less than 4,000 votes between them

LATEST More than half of Mayo candidates accounted for less than 4,000 votes, with just one  breaking the 1,000 vote mark

BEST OF THE WORST Renua’s Michael Farrington was the only candidate of the bottom nine to break the 1,000 vote mark in the final tally.

Over half of the candidates in the Mayo constituency polled just short of a total of 4,000 votes between them with only Renua’s Michael Farrington breaking the 1,000 vote mark.
A total of 1,576 votes separate Independent candidate Dr Jerry Cowley, who according to tallies came in seventh place from the next-best-placed candidate – Michael Farrington.
The Fine Gael tally figures show that the bottom nine candidates polled a total of 3,670 votes, with Independent SeΡn Forkin polling the lowest with just 42.
Michael Farrington got 2.49 percent of the vote, with the tally showing he received 1,576 first-preference votes. The Kiltimagh-based candidate was a relative unknown going into the election, and his performance may provide a platform on which he and the fledgling party could contest the next local elections.
Margaret Sheehan of the Green Party received 619, votes followed by People Before Profit’s Tom Moran, who polled 547 first preferences.
The Independent group, 1st Independent Mayo, will be disappointed with the showing of their candidates, George O’Malley and Peter Jordan, who received just 0.6 of the total vote between them.
Stephen Manning received 172 votes followed by Bangladeshi native Kamal Uddin who received 146 votes. Anti-eviction candidate Gerry O’Boyle received 133 votes with SeΡn Forkin coming last on 42.
