COUNTING got under way shortly after midnight last night for the Claremorris Municipal District and at 5.30pm today the remaining four seats
were filled.
The four seats in the seven seater district were filled by two Fine Gael candidates, Cllr Tom Connolly and Cllr John Cribbin, with Fianna FΡil’s Cllr Damian Ryan and John Caulfield taking the other two.
Though the four men did not reach the quota of 1,943, all were elected on the sixth count as all others had been eliminated from the running.
The expected dog fight for the remaining seats failed to take place as the distribution from Fianna FΡil’s JP Kean greatly boosted fellow Claremorris man Connolly, ruling Ballinrobe’s Michael Burke from the race.
