Brown bread bakers of the west will compete at the The Connacht Spring Show, May 19-20, in Ballinrobe
Battle of the brown-bread bakers
Red Cabot
The Connacht Spring Show is taking place next weekend, May 19 and 20, at Ballinrobe Race Course. The weekend will include cattle and sheep shows, sheepdog trials, a craft village and a fashion show, as well as the Best of the West Food Emporium, which will see loads of local artisan food producers showing and selling their wares. In an exciting add-on, there will also be a brown bread competition. If you fancy your skills at this time-honoured tradition, please bring your entry along to the Best of the West Food Emporium before 12 noon on Sunday. Brown breads of every kind are welcome. The baker of the best brown bread will win two nights’ bed and breakfast at the Breaffy House Spa Resort. This great prize, which also includes one evening meal and a spa treatment, is kindly sponsored by O’Hara’s of Foxford. A runners-up cash prize, sponsored by local butte r makers Cuinneog, is also up for grabs. So, roll up your sleeves and get baking – you never know, it could be you!
