CASTLEBAR BOUND Irish comedy star Bernard O’Shea and multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer Naomi Berrill.
THE month of March is bringing a mighty mix of performances to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar, from capers in comedy to moving instrumentals and melodies.
Two of Ireland’s best loved comedians, Bernard O’Shea and Karl Spain, will be taking to the Linenhall’s stage on Friday, March 7, and Friday, March 14, respectively.
This Friday, sees O’Shea perform his hilarious stand-up show, ‘Desperate House Husband’. Known for his riotous storytelling and infectious energy, O’Shea will deliver an unfiltered, laugh-out-loud take on the chaos of life as a stay-at-home parent. Fans of his work on Republic of Telly and Bridget & Eamon are in for a treat.
The following Friday it’s the turn of comedic powerhouse Karl Spain, whose ‘The One Show’ promises a sharp and witty exploration of modern life and relationships. Described as ‘achingly funny’ by the Sunday Times, Spain’s observational comedy never fails to leave audiences in stitches.
Music lovers will be excited by two top-class acts who are also making their way to Castlebar this month – The Naomi Berrill Trio and Kammerphilharmonie Europa.
The Naomi Berrill Trio will bring their fresh and evocative sound to the Linenhall on Thursday, March 13. Naomi Berrill is a cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer from Co Galway, currently based in the Italian city of Florence. She will perform tracks from her album ‘Inish’ alongside Lorenzo Pellegrini (guitar, synth, vocals) and Andrea Beninati (cello, drums, synth).
Inspired by the rugged islands off the west coast of Ireland, the album blends folk, classical and jazz influences to explore themes of island life: its beauty, its challenges and its people. ‘Sea Warrior’, a tribute to the legendary Irish pirate queen Gráinne Mhaol, celebrating female strength, will be a performance highlight that night.
Tuesday, March 18, heralds the welcome return of Kammerphilharmonie Europa as part of their Powerful Emotions Tour 2025. This renowned ensemble, consisting of some of Europe’s finest young musicians, will showcase exhilarating works by Vivaldi, Grieg, Ponchielli, Bach, Faure and Mozart. Recognised for their virtuosity and passion, the Kammerphilharmonie Europa will be joined by two award-winning soloists – violinist Andrej Sur and Cyrill Gussaroff on trumpet. Brimming with emotional depth and technical brilliance, a memorable experience awaits.
