Indie legend and showman Jerry Fish is performing in Ballina Arts Centre on Saturday, January 18 at 8pm.
Fish’s first album in 15 years, ‘Dreaming of Daniel’, was released last November. The album, featuring MayKay of Fight Like Apes, is a tribute to the late American artist and singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston, whose songs inspire Jerry’s live performances.
Since 2020, Fish has co-hosted Dublin’s annual ‘Hi, How Are You Day!’ – an opportunity to celebrate Daniel Johnston’s life and legacy, while also having open conversations about mental health and wellbeing with MayKay and pianist/arranger Cian Boylan.
Speaking about making the album with Maykay, Fish says: “Interpreting Daniel’s songs has been a truly magical journey for us.… We have so much fun at the ‘Hi, How Are You Day’ gigs, we felt compelled to capture the songs, arrangements and performances in a studio setting.”
Known for his theatrical shows blending music, carnival, and circus, Jerry has captivated audiences worldwide since the 1990s as the frontman of An Emotional Fish. The Ballina concert will see him perform tracks from the new album as well as fan favorites, celebrating his unique artistry.
Tickets, €30 each, are available from the Ballina Arts Centre website, ballinaartscentre.com.
