Castlebar's Linenhall to host popular Galway-based band

ENTERTAINMENT: The Raines to play in Castlebar

FOLK AMERICANA The Raines formed in 2019 after a chance meeting on Inis Oírr.

Acclaimed Galway-based folk-Americana trio The Raines are performing in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on December 7, at 8pm.
Comprised of Ruth Dillon, Yvonne Tiernan and Juliana Erkkonen, the band uses their collective experience and influences to create a unique and pure sound, writing strong and melodic songs, in which they weave in and out of vocal harmony and countermelody, interlaced with dreamy rhythmic strings.
Ruth Dillon (vocals, guitar, ukulele) toured and recorded with the legendary vocalist Dolores Keane, is a former member of The Molly Hicks, and has three solo albums of her own. Yvonne Tiernan (vocals/ukulele/percussion) toured the world with numerous bands, most significantly as the lead singer with The Chieftains. Juliana Erkkonen (fiddle and vocals) has been at the forefront of the Americana musical scene in Ireland and has released eight albums with a diverse range of acts.
The captivating songs on The Raines’ eagerly awaited debut album ‘Reverie’, released last year, showcases the band’s deep connection and unique blend of musical styles. Reviewing their music, Barry Egan said on Independent.ie: “The Raines put me in mind of something from Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue from 1975 – particularly with the parts with Scarlet Rivera on violin opposite Bob – meets an edgy Emmylou Harris.”
For tickets (€20 each) to The Raines in the Linenhall, visit thelinenhall.com or call the arts centre’s box office on 094 902 3733.
