ENTERTAINMENT: Swinford singer to air originals at Westport House

NEW CHAPTER Cathal Gavin, whose new material marks a transformation from boy soprano into a fully fledged artist with a unique voice and vision.

Acclaimed Mayo singer Cathal Gavin is set to launch new original songs at an upcoming exclusive concert in Westport. The Swinford virtuoso will unveil some brand-new original material at a sold-out concert taking place this Saturday, October 12, at Westport House.
Cathal has been writing his own songs over the past year and is set to move to an exciting new chapter in his musical journey – one that marks his transformation from an accomplished boy soprano into a fully fledged artist with a unique voice and vision.
“I have been collaborating with some of the music industry’s leading creative teams in Dublin over the past number of months, and it has been a huge opportunity and one that I have been relishing,” he said.
“It is a real honour to stage this very special event at Westport House, and I am looking forward to stepping into the spotlight again with a fresh new sound and to share some of my new original material. Staging the concert at Westport House will be an immense experience, and I am grateful to the Hughes family for giving me such a warm reception.”
The upcoming Westport concert, which has sold out, will be under the masterful guidance of musical director and Belcarra native Kathy Fahey and backed by a dazzling seven-piece band. Cathal will deliver a set of handpicked songs alongside his new original music.
Now 22, Cathal Gavin first burst onto the music scene at just 13 years old, when he released an album in aid of local charity, the Foxford and District Alzheimer’s Trust. ‘Voice of an Angel’ quickly captured the hearts of so many who enjoyed his extraordinary voice and heartfelt performances. Subsequent charitable appearances across Ireland went in support of various local causes.
Over the past nine years, Cathal has honed his craft, performing on some prestigious stages and sharing the spotlight with leading artists. One of his most memorable performances came at the 2019 World Youth Day in Panama, where he was the youngest Irish artist ever to perform at the global event, which was attended by Pope Francis and broadcasted to millions of viewers worldwide.
In addition to his live performances, Cathal has made his mark with powerful recordings. His debut single, ‘Forever Young’, released in July 2021, broke into the iTunes Top 100 Charts, with its Irish-pop sound and Celtic twist making it a hit.
Leading on from that, Cathal’s reimagined version of the hit ‘I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing’ – released as ‘Christmas Wish’ – captured the spirit of the festive season and gained international airplay in over 60 countries.
