St Patrick’s Drama Group, Westport, have never been busier as they celebrate their 60th year entertaining audiences near and far. The group most recently qualified for the 2024 Bostick All Ireland Confined Drama Finals in Mountmellick this April with their award-winning production of ‘Agnes of God’, which has received rave reviews on the circuit so far since it was staged in Westport in February.

Now, their next production of the season, ‘The Mariettas’, by Niamh Gleeson, is ready to set the stage alight.

Set in the 1968, the play centres on the The Marietta, a showband dreamed up while Bernie Brady works on the biscuit factory line in Dublin. She enlists four other ladies, including her dippy factory colleague Mary, and they attempt to burst onto the Dublin showband scene.

A somewhat shaky start in Fr Finian’s Parish Hall is not helped by a cocky unreliable band and a dodgy tummy or three. Will The Mariettas manage to get the show on the road and the crowd on their feet?

The cast of this charming and quirky production includes Gráinne Berry, Tia Crowley, Ríona Geraghty, Lennie Grimes, Rosaleen Heraty and Mairéad Ryan. This is a must-see show of nostalgia, laughter, tears and joy.

The Mariettas’, directed by Tom Navin and produced by Marion Moran, will be staged in Westport Town Hall Theatre for four nights from tonight Wednesday, April 3, to Saturday, April 6. Curtain up at 8pm on all nights.
