THE Gateway Leisure in Belmullet is preparing to host a number of high profile shows over the coming weeks. The Gateway Leisure centre is located on the site of the old Palm Court ballroom, the famous Belmullet institution of former times that attracted all the leading showband singers of its era. Now, director Enda Brogan and his staff are busy working on promoting a series of acts, including country and folk singers and comedy shows. These include Robert Mizzell and The Country Kings on Friday, February 26; comedian Jason Byrne – of RTÉ’s the Byrne Ultimatum – on Saturday, February 27; and folk singer SeΡn Keane on Sunday, April 11. Enda also plans to bring Sharon Shannon, The High Kings and Kíla to the venue. “We want to offer locals and visitors something different this year,” he said. Tickets for all shows are available from Gateway Leisure, Bangor Erris Spar and Belmullet Europspar.
