Balla Bluegrass Festival announces line-up

BEST OF BLUEGRASS Navan’s Pilgrim St will perform in Balla on the October Bank Holiday weekend.

Traditionally, the Balla Bluegrass Festival marks the end of the Irish Bluegrass festival season, ensuring it always finishes on a high note. This year is no different, and the festival will return for the eleventh time during the October Bank Holiday weekend.
For 2019, the festival has been slightly reshaped, starting on the Saturday rather than the traditional Friday. There will be two free gigs per night, which will be staggered to allow all music fans to enjoy both acts.
The 2019 programme features an all-Irish line up and introduces some new acts to festival.
Saturday, October 26, will see Mayo’s own Rocky Top String Band, fronted by Killawalla brother and sister, Hubie and Sarah MacEvilly, make a welcome return to Mannion’s Bar, while one of Dublin’s leading bluegrass outfits, Mules & Men, will play at The Olde Woods.
Sunday, October 27, looks to be particularly exciting, with Ireland’s newest bluegrass trio, Galway-based The Rocky River Bluegrass Show, and the highly successful Pilgrim St from Navan both making their first-ever Balla appearance.
As always, Balla’s own much-loved band, Colonel Bullshot Rides Again, led by festival organiser and Mayo bluegrass ambassador Tommy ‘T-Bone’ Lyons will bring the festival to a close on Monday evening at Mannion’s bar.
The Balla Bluegrass Festival is always great fun, and the last chance for Mayo bluegrass fans to enjoy a feast of this music on their doorstep, as well as meet with some of the nation’s bluegrass family, who are set to flock to the town from the four corners.
