MUSIC Trad groups The Kilfenora Céilí Band will perform in Claremorris Town Hall Theatre on December 29
SPIRITED TRAD The Kilfenora Céilí Band.
One of the country’s best-loved and most-respected trad groups, The Kilfenora Céilí Band, is coming up from Clare to help Claremorris say goodbye to 2018 in style.
One of Ireland’s oldest trad bands, The Kilfenora Céilí Band formed when a group of céilí musicians played in the old schoolhouse in Kilfenora, Co Clare, in 1909. A forward-thinking new priest had invited local fiddler Michael Slattery to form a band to play at the fundraising dance to help clear parish debts and refurbish the church – and the rest is history.
The members of the band have changed over the years, but the standards have never dropped. The Westport show will see plenty of high-spirited traditional music, high-energy dancing, heavenly song with Edel Vaughan – as well as plenty of banter and storytelling. A great way to round out the year.
Catch The Kilfenora Céilí Band in the Town Hall Theatre, Claremorris, on December 29. Doors open at 7pm; Show starts at 8pm. To book, visit www.townhall.ie.
