MUSIC Saturday, July 28, will see Jerry Dammers of The Specials perform a live DJ set at The Hideout Lounge, Foxford
2 TONE LEGEND Jerry Dammers, founder of The Specials, is set to perform in Foxford.
Saturday, July 28, will see Jerry Dammers pay his first visit to Foxford to perform a live DJ set at The Hideout Lounge.
Dammers is the founder, main songwriter and keyboard player of UK ska/rock/reggae band The Specials, and the founder of the 2 Tone record label. In the late ’ 70s and early ’80s, The Specials had many hits, including ‘A Message to you Rudy’, the haunting ‘Ghost Town’ and the anti-apartheid anthem ‘Free Nelson Mandela’.
Dammers started DJing at the Wag Club with Paul Weller during the miner’s strikes of ’84 and has carried on ever since, building up a reputation as a DJ to be reckoned with. Foxford gig goers can expect a night of varied music, featuring 2 tone, ska, reggae, dancehall, dub, rocksteady, groove, hip hop, funk and more.
The DJ set will be the latest in a string of Irish appearances by the musician, including performances in Dublin’s Whelan’s and the Galway International Arts Festival.
He will appear at The Hideout in association with the Groove Movement and Greenroom Promotions. The Groove Movement is a Foxford-based, not-for-profit cooperative, providing access to top-class acts in the west of Ireland at a nominal cost. No cover charge will be in place on the night. However any donations to cover costs will be gratefully received.
