VERSATILE VIRTUOSO Jack Lukeman returns to Westport next week.
Jack Lukeman, known to many as Jack L, returns to Westport Town Hall Theatre for what promises to be another knock-out gig on Friday, April 6.
The versatile singer has a spectacular show lined up, with some great new characters to introduce audiences to, each plucked from his vivid imagination – and none more vivid then himself.
Fresh from an international tour with Imelda May and her band, Lukeman is currently on an extensive UK and European tour, which includes return dates to the Royal Albert Hall with both Jools Holland and Neil Sedaka.
A native of Athy, Jack Lukeman left school at 15, and after spending a short period in the family business began playing music full-time at 18. He cut his teeth on the bohemian busking scene around Europe in the early ’90s, playing across Holland, Belgium and Germany sometimes with art rock band Serious Women.
Lukeman first came to prominence in the summer of 1995 when he and The Black Romantics took up a residency at The Da Club (Dublin Arts Club), selling out night after night.
Lukeman established himself as a solo artist and songwriter with his memorable live shows and his breakthrough 1999 multi-platinum selling album Metropolis Blue, gaining record deals and touring extensively in the US and Europe. Indeed, he became a regular fixture on US college radio with the singles ‘Rooftop Lullabye’, ‘Georgie Boy’ and ‘Ode to Ed Wood’.
Describing Jack L’s voice as ‘powerful and fluid’, Hot Press magazine writes: “His range too is impressive, from the deep baritone resonance of ‘When The Moon Is High’ to the aching falsetto of the magnificent ‘Rooftop Lullaby’ … an artist as unique as Ireland has ever produced.”
Tickets are available from the Westport Town Hall Box Office on 098 28459 or at www.westporttheatre.com.
