THEATRE John Kenny and Mary McEvoy return to Westport Town Hall Theatre this Friday, June 9, with ‘The Successful TD’
STANDING DÁIL John Kenny and Mary McEvoy star in ‘The Successful TD’.
Following a sell out performance last year in Westport Town Hall with ‘The Matchmaker’, John Kenny and Mary McEvoy make a return visit to Westport this Friday, June 9, with their latest production ‘The Successful TD’, based on ‘The Letters of A Successful TD and An Irish Minister of State’, by John B Keane. This production is making waves on the national theatre circuit playing to packed houses around the country to rave reviews.
The Successful TD follows the trials, tribulations, misadventures and hilarious antics of Tull McAdoo as he seeks re-election to the DΡil in the ‘October Elections’. Written by John B Keane in 1967, this play displays his edge for humour and satire that are uncomfortably close to the politics of today. Peppered with Keane’s gallery of madcap characters this show will have you laughing at politics (in a good way) from start to finish.
Tull has roped in the help of his faithful daughter Kate, while his wife nurses her various ailments in bed or Lisdoonvarna, but his arch enemy Flannery, the local school teacher, plans to scupper the election for Tull.
“Any man with a vote is a man to be respected. I’ll play with them, lie to them, sing dumb about them while I have a chance of a vote. Don’t give me no more stink about the truth. Christ told the truth and they crucified him…”
Curtain up on Friday, June 9, at 8pm. Tickets, €22 each, are available from the Westport Town Hall Theatre
box office on 098 28459 or at
