DRAMA Killeen NS pupils stage their play, ‘1916 - The Road to Independence’, in Westport Town Hall on April 10
The Fifth and Sixth Class pupils of Killeen NS are marking the centenary of the Easter Rising in a unique way. On Sunday, April 10, they will proudly present a play entitled ‘1916 - The Road to Independence’ in Westport Town Hall.
Written by the pupils themselves, the play had its debut in Louisburgh Community Hall before a full house, and received unanimous acclaim from its audience.
In association with Louisburgh-Killeen Heritage, the play is a true community effort with many in the school and wider Louisburgh community contributing to the hugely successful and high-quality production.
The story is told from the perspective of an ordinary Dublin family experiencing the emotional and practical implications of participation in the Rising. It offers a poignant and humorous insight into the life of the family members and, although we all know the details of the Rising itself, the play offers the chance to look with new eyes at our shared history.
Don’t miss this chance for a great value family outing and to be part of something very special in the company of Killeen’s finest dramatists and musicians.
Proceeds from ticket sales in aid of the Sunbeams Building Fund, Killeen NS’s special class for pupils with multiple disabilities.
