Powerful folk trio to perform together in Westport

Matt Molloy’s pub, Westport, is hosting a stellar line-up in what promises to be one of the highlight concerts of the year tomorrow night (Wednesday), August 6. A powerful trio will take to the stage: Laura Weber Cash of the famed Carter-Cash dynasty; Jeff White, formerly of the Allison Krauss Band; and Chieftains stalwart Kevin Conneff.
Laura Weber Cash, raised in Corvallis, Oregon, began playing fiddling at the age of nine and she moved to Nashville in 1989 to tour with Patty Loveless, singing harmony and playing fiddle, guitar and mandolin.
She went on to tour with her then future in-laws, June Carter and Johnny Cash, and has recorded with many artists, including George Jones, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Earl Scruggs, Kris Kristofferson and many others.
Jeff White has been a prominent name in the bluegrass music scene since the mid 1980s, appearing first as singer and guitarist with Alison Krauss and Union Station. He has worked with artists Tim O’Brien, Lyle Lovett, Patty Loveless and for over 20 years toured and recorded with country music hall-of-famer Vince Gill.
White currently tours with the high-powered bluegrass band The Travelling McCourys and has produced many award-winning albums for bluegrass fiddle great Michael Cleveland. White’s songs have been recorded by Del McCoury, Alison Krauss and the Union Station, Dan Tyminski and Dale Ann Bradley.
Most people who have followed Irish music are familiar with Kevin Conneff, who joined the Chieftains in 1976, replacing original bodhrΡn player Peadar Mercier. He has also added his beautiful tenor voice to scores of recordings with the band over the last four decades, and released an acclaimed solo album called ‘The Week before Easter’.
Aside from his heartfelt singing and drum playing, Kevin is a masterful storyteller with a wealth of personal stories about great musicians he has known.
These three musical greats are coming together for what promises to be an unmissable night of collaboration – and undoubtedly a few solos thrown in – at Matt Molloy’s famed Yard Bar.
