Andrew St Leger of the Woodland League to talk in Westport ahead of performance by jazz musician David Lyttle
Trees, and all that jazz
Andrew St Leger of the Woodland League will give a talk at 8pm in the Clock Tavern, Westport, this Saturday night, ahead of the welcome return of jazz drummer and songwriter David Lyttle – who will play with Keyboardist John Leighton and London saxophonist Tom Harrison. The evening, which takes place in the venue’s first-floor All Time Club, will be rounded off by much-loved local band, The Piston Slappers.
The Woodland League is a not-for-profit NGO that has long campaigned against the sale of Coillte public forest assets. It is currently concerned with highlighting possible links between the collapse of the asset-management company, Helvetia Wealth, and Irish pension funds. Helvetia Wealth is the parent of the Irish subsidiary known as the International Forestry Fund.
David Lyttle has had a busy 2013, promoting latest album ‘Interlude’, a collaboration with Duke Special, in Los Angeles and London. He’s currently working on the follow-up to the album, which was described by the Daily Mirror as ‘incredible’.
London saxophonist Tom Harrison played in last year’s Westport Arts Festival as part of Lyttle’s 16-date tour. He has worked with jazz and soul artists such as Grammy-winning saxophone legend Jean Toussaint and Heather Small of M-People, and is about to embark on his second UK tour.
Keyboardist John Leighton was described by the Irish Times as ‘a fine pianist whose music has distinction and individuality’ in 2011 following the release of his debut album ‘Dramatic Life’.
