The family-friendly Secret Village Samhain Fest takes place in the woods beside Ballaghaderreen village this Sunday
Ghosts and ghouls to appear at Ballagh’ festival
After the success of the first Secret Village festival in Ballaghaderreen, which was held in August, the organisers have decided to put on another event, this time with a spooky Halloween theme.
From 2.30pm to 11.30pm this Sunday, October 27, the beautiful outdoor natural amphitheatre hidden in the woods used for last year’s festival will come alive again. Only a two minute walk from Ballaghaderreen town centre, the tree-enclosed area makes the ideal venue for music, storytelling, fire dancers, Halloween games – and of course ghosts, fairies, spirits and ghouls.
The Secret Village Samhain Fest programme includes gigs by Felix Sonnyboy Wilson, Nicholas Timothy, Sv Village Drums, the Le Faiths, The Unmentinables, STSA Choral and more, as well as a craft fair and wholesome food. There’s also plenty for the kids – including a ‘spirit walk’, mask making, a costume competition, turnip carving and drumming.
Festival goers are invited dress up in ‘a costume the ancient Celts would be proud of’, but costumes and paints will be available on the day for anyone who can’t lay their hands on the right outfit in time.
For more information, visit the Secret Village Festival page on Facebook. Day tickets cost €12 (€10 of pre-booked at Spells, Ballaghaderreen). Children go free.
