O’Brien has been touring with his band for over 25 years all over Ireland, UK and further afield. He first stepped into a recording studio in 1984 when he put down 16 tracks for an album entitled ‘Easy Listening’. Since then, he has gone on to record an incredible 28 albums.
In 1988, O’Brien represented Ireland in the Euro Gold Star Awards, which were held in Tilburg, Holland, with 18 countries taking part. He has had two top ten hits in Austria and recorded a duet entitled ‘When Midnight Comes’ with one of Austria’s biggest country music stars, Bill Herms.
Later in 1988, he travelled to Nashville to record an album entitled ‘Sunnyside’. The title track, ‘Keep On The Sunnyside’ went on to become an anthem for the singer, and to this day he continues to sing it at all his shows. His hit songs over the years include ‘Never Grow Old’, ‘Out To California’, ‘All Those Years Ago’, ‘She Taught Me How To Yodel’, ‘The Old Account’ and ‘Marion’s Rose’.
