There’s a Winter Wonderland at Westport House
It’s time to get into the Christmas spirit with Santa, Mrs Claus and their elves during their annual visit to the stunning 18th-century Westport House. The beautiful stately home has been transformed into a magical Winter Wonderland since last Saturday, November 24 – and it will continue to sparkle until Christmas Eve. Whether they’ve been naughty or nice, little ones from all over Ireland are welcome to Winter Wonderland, where activities galore will be laid on for them. They can visit Santa and his elves at Santa’s Grotto in the beautiful Drawing Room of Westport House where they will receive a special Christmas gift, join Mrs Claus for magical storytelling by the fireside in the Library, or take part in the Little Dummer Boy workshop in the large dining room. The resident snow(wo)man will also be on hand to paint faces with Christmas cheer, and the Westport express train will be chuffing its way cheerily through the estate. If the little ones want to make mum and dad something special for Christmas, they can visit the Elves Workshop and paint their own Christmas decoration to hang proudly on their own tree at home. Guests will be greeted at Westport House with a complimentary glass of mulled wine, and a juice for the little ones. For the first time Westport House will also contain a Christmas Wishing Tree. Families are invited to write their wishes, hang them on the tree and whisper the wish to the bark of the tree. The wishes may be for different things: some will be very personal and some more global. A donation of €1 for every family’s wish will go to the Mayo Cystic Fibrosis Building Fund.
All activities and gifts are included in the price of €10 for infants (under two years) €20 for children (2-15 years) and €10 for adults. Babies under one year old go free. Pre-booking is advised. Families can visit at weekends, while school, crèche, corporate and special needs groups are welcome to visit by appointment from Wednesday to Friday between 10am to 2pm.
