Celtic Flames, a 20-piece mixed music group based in Galway, will play in Nevin’s Newfiled Inn, Tiernaur, on August 5
Celtic Flames to set Tiernaur alight
Celtic Flames, an exciting 20-piece mixed music group based in Galway, will be playing in Nevin’s Newfield Inn, Tiernaur, on Sunday night, August 5. Ranging in ages from six to 60 the members play and perform an eclectic mix of traditional Irish music, song and dance fused with more contemporary idioms, like jazz, blues, soft rock and reggae. Formed originally as a ten-piece group in 2011, the band has expanded to include the top young talent to emerge from the west of Ireland in recent years. The group uses 15 different musical instruments to deliver a unique and vibrant sound, while their versatile dancers perform the full dynamic range of Irish dancing including light, heavy, set, sean nós and twig dancing. A variety of singers also perform a seductive hybrid of modern and traditional classics and ballads. Celtic Flames’s atmospheric, energetic show is billed as a moody blend of ancient and modern, of a rich musical tradition with a contemporary feel. The group has a strong Mayo connection, mainly through the Kilcoyne family from Rosturk – eight group members are either children or in-laws of the family. They are planning performances all over the west during the summer months but the Tiernaur venue will be their only Mayo performance.
Admission costs €5, and booking is recommended in advance, as it will be a sit-down concert with numbers limited. To book, call into Nevin’s bar or phone 087 9005174 or 093 49376.
