This year I went to … Donegal

Mayo resident Mark Stephens and his family decided spend their summer holiday in Co Donegal
“I still feel that it is expensive in Ireland”

Mark Stephens, Architect, Foxford
I got away this year to County Donegal in July for a week. I went there with my wife and four kids and met up with two of my sisters-in-law and their kids (4). It was very enjoyable and we were very lucky with the weather too. There was great stuff for the kids to do and I was able to go out cycling every day, which was great with the beautiful scenery on view.
It is cheaper to holiday in Ireland when you take into account costs you will incur on a foreign holiday such as ferries, planes, taxis, car hire and those kind of things. But I still feel that it is expensive in Ireland.
I haven’t holidayed in Ireland that often, an odd week here and there. We’d do it again but you do need to be prepared for the weather. We were very lucky this time.
I found that accommodation prices were very reasonable but eating out is expensive when you contrast it to mainland Europe. It is cheaper abroad and for adults a better experience but kids are happy wherever they go. I’ve travelled the world in the past and my last two foreign holidays were in France and Spain.
