LOCHLAINN Ó MearΡin, who ‘married a beautiful woman and moved to Westport’, is now one of the new stars with the TG4’s flag ship Irish speaking drama, Ros na Rún.
Lochlann has worked as an Irish speaking actor for years and recently decided to settle in Westport. Many of the voice overs you hear on TG4 kids shows like Scooby Doo and Garfield are none other than Lochlanns.
“My beautiful wife decided that we would travel around the west of Ireland and we loved Westport. People here were so welcoming and we decided that we would stay,” Lochlann told The Mayo News.
Working with the late Mick Lally was a memorable experience for Lochlann who often spoke Irish to the TV legend.
“I worked with Mick Lally while on Glenroe, he was a real gentleman. I used to talk to him a lot because we both spoke Irish. He really put you at ease by talking Irish,” he said.
“There is always a bit of me that would like to go to the States but I love working from here making movies about Ireland.
I have worked with TG4 on short films in Irish and I’m really only breaking in there now,” Lochlann added.
Lochlann is originally from Dublin but is now living in Westport with his wife Vicky and two young children. As well as playing the role of Dara in Ros na Rún, Lochlann is also the voice for children’s cartoons on TG4 including, Fozzie Bear, Patrick (in Spongebob), Shaggy (in Scooby Doo) Porky Pig and Garfield. Lochlann has previously appeared in a host of other well known TV shows including Glenroe, The Clinic, Holby City and Hollyoaks.
Ros na Rún airs on TG4 every Tuesday and Thursday at 8.30pm.
